7/21/2023 0 Comments Orbit culture![]() ![]() It's not the most complex thing you'll ever hear, but it'll slam you in the gut and bludgeon you over the head. Big, chunky riffs make up the core of Orbit Culture's sound, varying from slow sledgehammer swings on 'North Star of Nija' to full-auto blasting on 'Open Eye'. Metallica and Gojira are often the two bands referenced as inspirations, and it comes through in the Hetfield-esque clean vocals and abundant pick scrapes. That said, the band clearly has a signature sound. It's not at all one-note or repetitive either, as evidenced by the range of songs on this album. How he manages to hit the mark every time is a mystery to me, but right now he never seems to miss. Considering how quickly they've been putting out new music over the past couple of years on top of a busy touring schedule, the man deserves some serious props. Not only does he play rhythm guitar and perform a whole variety of cleans, growls, and screams, he also writes all of Orbit Cultures songs and lyrics, then mixes, masters, and produces it all too. Niklas Karlsson is one of the hardest-working dudes in metal right now. It's a wall-to-wall banger, with not a single song falling short of the collective standard. Immediately upon its release I was hooked, and since then I've listened to it from one end to the other countless times. ![]() I don't want to mince my words Nija has become one of my favourite albums ever. ![]()
